Director, Software Engineering

We are seeking a proven technology leader to oversee and manage the growing engineering organization for our Threat Intelligence product line. This position is critical as the TI platform is key to Rapid7’s evolving security strategy. If you are someone who loves all things technical, know that this role requires a passionate technologist who will bring hands-on leadership and day-to-day structure to the engineering organization, as well as an understanding of how the product meets the needs of the customer. This person must be a collaborative team player who will work not just with the TI team, but across Rapid7 as this business scales and integrates more fully with Rapid7’s technology platform. About The Team 

We are IntSights, a Rapid7 company, that has created a market shifting solution to DETECT, ANALYZE and REMEDIATE​ all kinds of threats and malicious information in the clear, dark & deep web. Threat Intelligence  is a leading cloud based Detection and Remediation Platform of external cyber threats organizations are facing on a daily basis.

About The Role

In this role, you will:

  • Responsible for developing technical strategy, and for developing and maintaining a technical roadmap that will continue to innovate from a technical standpoint

  • Steer and grow the engineering team, carefully balancing the talented current team with the need to hold people accountable as the business and product complexity grow rapidly

  • Invest in developing the current and future stars of the engineering organization as the company and team scale

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure a high degree of alignment, ruthless prioritization, timely releases of products and services in support of critical company initiatives, and making sure the team is focused on “innovation that matters”

  • Work as an effective leader across the organization, and collaborate with other leaders to translate the business priorities of the company into a technical agenda

  • Be a trusted and respectful voice of the TI engineering team to the broader organization

  • Relentlessly drive improvements to user experience through discovery, exploration and action 

  • Ensure scalable development, testing, and deployment process to maintain and improve product reliability, scalability, and performance

  • Interact with customers on a weekly basis to make sure you understand their needs

The skills you will bring include:

  • Minimum of 10+ years of engineering leadership (minimum of 40 people) experience with a proven track record of successful development and delivery of complex, enterprise-class software that resulted in material market impact

  • Technical Expertise: Well versed in cloud technologies with a proven record of building scalable enterprise software, as well as experience providing leadership and direction to others in how to efficiently solve complex engineering challenges. A combination of domain expertise in cloud services, storage, network, infrastructure, and/or system-level software is highly desired: B2B experience is required  

  • Team Leadership: A passionate leader that is known to deliver in high growth and highly dynamic environments, successful experience of setting the vision, and building, leading and motivating engineering teams as they scale. Demonstrated ability to guide high performing engineering teams, where team members take initiative and push themselves beyond their comfort zone, along with a consistent track record of  attracting, retaining, developing and motivating highly effective teams

  • Customer Centricity - Puts the customers needs at the forefront of all decisions related to delivering products, services and experience to create customer satisfaction, loyalty and advocacy 

  • Results-Oriented: Proven history of leading and managing engineering teams to release products to enterprise customers with the ability to build and ship high-quality products/platforms in a fast-paced, continuous deployment environment, implementing enhanced product development processes that shorten release cycles and improve “time to market” for new products 

  • Collaboration and Influencing: Remarkable ability to influence cross-functionally in product management, marketing, sales, strategy and other areas to ensure alignment on the priorities of the engineering team and to facilitate a proactive dialogue on the possibilities and constraints of the business. A team player, who works effectively in a team-based organization, collaborates cross-functionally and builds support and alignment around goals and objectives

  • Strategic Orientation: Strong facility with following and synthesizing strategic trends in their industry, and altering course as required to ensure that engineering enables the company to capitalize on those trends
