Manager, Software Engineering

In this role you will lead a team of software engineers that work on our Insight platform. 

Leading a team of engineers responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining secure authentication services across our platform. You will work closely with an outstanding peer group of highly skilled engineers in order to prioritise and set direction of the teams.

You will collaborate closely with product management, UX and engineering peers to prioritize and deliver features that enhance the security and user experience of our platform. Additionally, you will foster the professional growth of your team members and ensure successful delivery of projects in alignment with company goals.

About the Team

The Platform team at Rapid7 is at the core of our engineering efforts.  They are responsible for developing and maintaining full-stack solutions that power our platform. This team plays a pivotal role in building and supporting new features and cross-functional capabilities that integrate across all of Rapid7's products. Working with a diverse technology stack that includes a React front-end, Spring backend and Postgres database, the team focuses on driving innovation, scalability, and reliability.

About the Role

As a Software Engineering Manager for the Platform team, you will oversee day-to-day operations while fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment. Your primary responsibility is to support, mentor, and grow your team members, ensuring they feel empowered and valued.

In this role, you will proactively address challenges, resolve issues, and provide guidance to maintain productivity and morale. You will also lead project management efforts by tracking progress, facilitating cross-team discussions, and determining future priorities to align with company goals.

Collaboration is key. You will work closely with UX designers, product managers, and other engineering teams to deliver exceptional, customer-centric solutions. Your leadership will help drive innovation and ensure our platform remains robust, scalable, and cutting-edge.

In this role, you will;

  • Directly manage multiple teams, coaching and mentoring team members, including scoping work and prioritising tasks

  • Mentor engineers and help grow their skills, identify growth areas, set expectations and provide feedback

  • Managing projects and socialising progress across engineering teams and leadership

  • Keep a keen eye on quality, and continue to drive improvements to testing, monitoring and alerting

  • Work cross functionally with PM, UX and Engineering to address specific customer pain points and to think strategically about the future direction of the product

  • Work closely with other managers and teams across the InsightVM product to align efforts and initiatives

  • Kickstart new ideas, build proof of concepts and jumpstart newly funded projects

The skills you’ll bring include;

  • A track record for mentoring and growing software engineers at all levels

  • A demonstrable passion for all things software engineering

  • An understanding of the software development lifecycle

  • Experience working cross-functionally with PM, UX and Engineering teams

  • Experience with managing multiple, high-impact projects

  • Capable of managing through high-intensity situations when they arise

  • BEng, BSc or related technical field or equivalent practical experience
