Rapid7 is looking for a Product Counsel to help drive high-profile cross-functional initiatives across our business involving a variety of complex legal and regulatory issues, including intellectual property, patents, privacy, and artificial intelligence (AI). This is a unique opportunity to join our growing Product Legal team, working at the intersection of law, technology, and cybersecurity to support go-to-market strategies and compliance efforts.

About the Team

The Product Legal team partners closely with product, engineering, AI, and go-to-market teams to ensure Rapid7 builds, launches, and enhances offerings that are compliant, secure, and strategically positioned for success. We collaborate across the business to address cutting-edge legal challenges and safeguard our innovations.

About the Role

 As a Product Counsel, your primary responsibility will be to provide legal and regulatory guidance on Rapid7’s product offerings, intellectual property, and AI initiatives. Specifically, your focus will be to:

  • Maintain and analyze patent data from Rapid7’s portfolio to identify competitive strengths and support strategic decision-making.

  • Work closely with go-to-market teams to integrate IP and technology innovations into strategic roadmaps.

  • Partner with product, engineering, and AI teams to advise on legal and regulatory requirements for new and existing offerings.

  • Develop expertise in AI, EU privacy, and regulatory frameworks such as GDPR, EU AI Act, NIS2, DORA, CRA, and the EU Data Act.

  • Operationalize procedures to embed privacy and compliance into product development.

  • Act as a subject matter expert in customer negotiations in collaboration with commercial legal.

  • Support improvements to forms, policies, and processes, leveraging AI tools for scalable solutions.

  • Provide sound, practical advice to senior business leaders on complex legal and business issues.

 

The skills and qualities you’ll bring include:

  • Law degree and license to practice law in your jurisdiction.

  • At least 2 years of relevant legal experience (preferably in technology, privacy, or IP).

  • Technical acumen and ability to learn and apply new regulatory paradigms quickly.

  • Strong interest in cybersecurity, AI, and enterprise internet technologies.

  • Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to explain complex legal and technical concepts simply.

  • Proven business judgment and strategic thinking.

  • Ownership mindset with willingness to handle initiatives of any size.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with multiple stakeholders.

  • Proactive, collaborative, and diligent working style.
