Rapid7 is looking for a curious, collaborative and passionate Senior Software Engineer to join our expanding Detection and Response (D&R) practice in Belfast, working on our SIEM and XDR solution - InsightIDR. This role will be integral to the team with influence over the design and architectural direction of the products, as well as a leading role in mentoring & training more junior staff members!

About the Team

This is the central guiding principle for each member of the Rapid7 team: “What more can we do to help all of us live in a more secure world?”  With this mission in mind, we’ve built InsightIDR, a system designed to detect when customers’ environments, including networks, systems, and accounts, are under attack or may have been compromised. We have had massive success, and have thousands of customers for whom we ingest millions of events per second.

These events are enriched with contextual information and sent to both our optimised search engine and suites of intelligent detections, which alert customers if there is any indication of attack or compromise in their environment. 

Our Terraform-described stack runs in AWS, coded mostly in Java, and built over a variety of data persistence and queue technologies including SNS/SQS, S3, ElasticSearch, Redis, MySQL and PostgreSQL-flavored RDS and others..

About the Role

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be working on both this data processing pipeline and the backend services which drive our APIs. 

In this role, you will:

• Design, implement, release, and monitor production code changes at massive scale in a continuous deployment fashion

• Collaborate with other teams within InsightIDR and products within Rapid7 to design integration touch points and features which span multiple development teams

• Contribute to architectural and API design decisions as our product constantly evolves

• Advise and mentor junior engineers on building a career in software development

The skills you’ll bring include:

• A demonstrable passion for the craft of software development

• Comfort with tools such as GitHub and Maven for building, storing, and reviewing code

• A history demonstrating a team-based approach to problem solving

• Interest and/or experience mentoring junior engineers

• Experience defining contracts for coordinating development of software projects across multiple teams

• Experience in cloud-based architecture

• A strong sense of ownership and responsibility for the quality of the software you create

• Empathy for our users and the Rapid7 mission

• 5+ years of experience in software development, including active or recent Java experience

Even Better If You Have:

• Interest and/or experience in the security industry

• Experience with Spring and/or SpringBoot

• Experience with AWS services in particular

• Passion to collaborate with our wider teams (e.g. product, UX, support) to think strategically about how to solve problems for our user
